Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is located at 301 Franklin Street in downtown Buffalo. The restaurant has an old retro feel to it with lots of signs, pictures and other memorabilia. Dinosaur was very impressive in customer service and accessibility and earns a 5 of 5 wheelz rating. Having gone to Dinosaur-B-Que with a family member who has an egg allergy I was very impressed with how they handled the situation and the knowledge of the wait staff which made the experience that much better.

Parking: Parking is available in front of the building along with multiple parking lots adjacent and behind Dinosaur with handicapped parking. They do a great job with snow removal from what I’ve seen.

Entrance/Exit: The entrance to the restaurant is well done with plenty of room to maneuver and the doors were also wide enough and easy to open.

Seating: Seating at Dinosaur offers many options for wheelchair users with plenty of room for clearance to fit at the table. They have booths that you could also transfer to as well.

Bar area: The bar at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is lower than bars typically are and some wheelchair users (depending on the height of your chair) would be able to enjoy the company of their party.

Restrooms: The restrooms were fully accessible and easily manageable. There are set back in the back of the restaurant.

Ru’s Pierogi, located at 295 Niagara Street in downtown Buffalo, does a wonderful job with the food and the atmosphere. The building has a modernized-old school feel to it; with original style windows mixed with brickwork. Owner Andrew Ruszczyk has taken his family recipe and turned it into a successful business. A pierogi warehouse employs about 30 people from Journey’s End Refugee Services, Inc. Ru’s has some minor issues that they are working on regarding their lift, but earns a 5 out of 5 wheelz for outstanding customer service and overall accessibility.

Parking: Street parking is available in front of the restaurant and down the street, including near Midas.

Entrance/Exit: Entering the main level of the building from the street is a very smooth transition. The door is easy to open and once inside you’ll find a vestibule with stairs and a wheelchair lift that leads to the inside the restaurant. If going alone, it would be a good idea to call the restaurant to let them know if you have a wheelchair and need assistance getting in. The lift door (as of now) needs to be unlocked and a key needs to be inserted in order to use it (and therefore get into the restaurant). Management is currently considering changes to the lift to make it easier to use.


Counter Service: Ru’s is considered “fast casual” because ordering is done at a counter and your food is delivered to your table. The counter is at the perfect level and there is even a space to sign a receipt after purchasing if needed! Lines can get long, so a concern is being in the way of other parties eating their meal or others in line.

Seating: All the tables are wheelchair accessible and there are no problems fitting underneath. When it is super crowded, it may be a bit difficult to find a table or get to a table. There are, however, a lot of tables in a relatively small area.

Restrooms: The restrooms are fully accessible and very large with grab bars and everything needed.

Pearl Street Grill & Brewery is a popular destination to go watch a game, grab a meal, or to get a drink before heading to an event in downtown Buffalo. Unfortunately, the accessibility at Pearl Street, although they try, is disappointing. There are some issues with the entrance to the building and with the restroom that affected the rating of Pearl Street Grill & Brewery. Their rating is 2 out of 5 wheelz.

Parking: Parking is available on the street around the buildings or at one of the several parking lots around pearl street. The lot used was directly across from the restaurant and was very convenient.


Entrance/Exit: The entrance Pearl Street Grill & Brewery has a large step up that does require assistance to get up into the restaurant. They have a small portable ramp that can be brought out if a member of your party goes inside and finds a host to bring it out, and set it up, which would still require assistance to get up and down the ramp due to the incline.


Seating Area: The seating area is fully accessible with both booths and tables. Transferring is an option into the booths or a wheelchair can fit at the end of the table. There was no lower bar area for a wheelchair at the bar.

Patio: The patios at Pearl Street are wheelchair accessible and there is an elevator to get up to them. They also provide great views of Downtown Buffalo.


Restrooms: The restrooms were a bit disappointing. Because this is a multilevel restaraunt, I was able to use two different bathrooms as I was on more than one floor. It was very difficult to maneuver into the restrooms; there was a bit of a threshold to get into either restroom. Once inside the restroom there was very small stall. A wheelchair could barely turn around and close the door. My chair was able to fit, but that may not be the case for many other wheelchairs.

Big Ditch Brewing Company opened in late 2014 in downtown Buffalo. Big Ditch is very well thought out in terms of accessibility and is very spacious. You can get a great meal, have a drink, or watch a game! Big Ditch Earns 5 out of 5 Wheelz.

Parking: There is street parking adjacent to the building and also on the cross streets near the restaurant. Some of the curb ramps are a bit difficult to maneuver because of their location and may require some assistance. One of the downfalls of Downtown Buffalo is that there is a lack of off street parking. There is handicap parking on the street with only a few spots available. While not the fault of the establishment, it is crucial to have a flat cub when trying to exit a vehicle so that the wheelchair is on even ground. That is not always possible.

Entrance and Exit: The entrance at Big Ditch is located on the side of the building. The doors are easy to pull and push open. Once in the building, there is plenty of room to move and get to the hostess stand.

Bar: The bar has an area perfect for people in wheelchairs. At the end of the bar, there is a section that is fully accessible and offers a place to sit and put your drink down, along with having conversations with people in your party. If that area is being used, you could use another area of the bar that is a little bit higher.

Seating: Big Ditch offers many seating options throughout the restaurant. There were no issues at the tables, ie. the table being too high or the legs of the table getting in the way. There is plenty of room to make your way to your table and exit after your meal. There is also plenty of space to sit on their patio. There are huge garage doors that lead to the outdoor seating area. There is also a second level that is not wheelchair accessible, however, with the large seating area on the main level it is not an issue.

Restrooms: The restrooms are fully accessible. They have a handicap stall with plenty of room and grab bars, if needed. The sink is also fully accessible and there is plenty of room to fit under the sink while washing your hands.
